about me and my work

"An Englishman by birth, I’m a Kiwi by temperament and inclination. We emigrated to New Zealand in 2004, and fell in love with this country.

Living in New Zealand gives me access to indigenous woods I have never worked with before. Rimu, Matai, Red Beech, Macrocarpa, Totara, are just a few of the delightful timbers to be found here, and there are examples of some of these lovely woods in the Gallery pages.

As a designer/craftsman, I mostly enjoy making furniture to client’s specific requirements, and I like to involve my customers in the design process. If I call myself a craftsman, it is not to lay claim to any exalted status, but rather a description of an attitude of mind I bring to my work. Designing and making furniture is my passion!

I have worked professionally in wood for almost forty years, and the pleasure it yields gets better; especially now I’m semi-retired, and I get to choose my jobs!

My own personal bent is towards contemporary design, and I always welcome commissions which provide me with a technical challenge; but having said that, I’m a woodworker, and I try to make what my clients want. If somebody asked me to make a three-course meal in wood, I’d have a go!

The gallery page shows just a small selection of the pieces I have made over the years, with representative prices.

All the items shown will be made to order, and can be made in a wide variety of woods. I’m always happy to discuss with you any furniture pieces made to your own specification, which you will hopefully treasure for many years.

My sincere thanks go to my wife Innes, whose expertise (and consummate patience) makes this website possible."
